MEMBERSHIP POLICY DOCUMENT

This document outlines the official policies governing the services and benefits offered by Mustard Seed Kenya. All members are required to read, understand and comply with these policies as a condition of membership.

1. LAST EXPENSE COVER POLICY

1.1 Waiting Period

  • Members or beneficiaries aged below 69 years shall observe a waiting period of 120 days (4 months) from the date of registration before qualifying for benefits.
  • Members or beneficiaries aged 70 years and above shall observe a waiting period of 180 days (6 months) from the date of registration before qualifying for benefits.

1.2 Definition of Beneficiaries

  • Children are defined as individuals aged 1 year to 18 years, or up to 25 years with proof of active schooling.
  • Parents refer strictly to the biological parents of the member.
  • Parents-in-law refer to the legitimate biological parents of the member’s spouse.

1.3 Infant Death Benefit

In the unfortunate event of the death of a child below the age of one (1) year, Mustard Seed Kenya shall provide a cash support of KES 20,000 to the family.

1.4 Claim Eligibility

  • The member must be active at the time of making a claim.
  • Mustard Seed Kenya does not substitute Last Expense support products with cash payments, except where explicitly stated.

1.5 Contribution Deadline Policy

Monthly contributions must be submitted by the 10th day of each month.

Failure to remit the monthly contribution by the 10th shall attract a new waiting period of 90 days (3 months), calculated from the 10th day of the month in which the payment delay occurred.

2. CASH REWARD POLICY

  • Cash Reward is an optional benefit available exclusively to members enrolled in the Last Expense Cover.
  • The member must be active at the time of making a claim.
  • The waiting period for Cash Reward eligibility is six (6) months from the date of completion of the annual payment.
  • Members are allowed a grace period of ninety (90) days to complete payment after activation.
  • Members are free to select the beneficiaries they wish to cover, provided that such beneficiaries fall within those already registered under the Last Expense Cover.
  • The Cash Reward benefit may be issued to the member either before burial or after burial, depending on the member’s preference or request.

3. MEMBER SAVINGS POLICY

  • Only members registered under the Last Expense Cover are eligible to participate in the Mustard Seed Savings Program.
  • Members may deposit savings at any time and in any amount.
  • Members are permitted to withdraw their savings at any time upon request.
  • Upon approval of a withdrawal request, funds may be released within a period of up to three (3) hours, subject to internal verification procedures.
  • Member savings may earn interest of up to 12% per annum, subject to applicable program conditions.

4. EDUCATION SUPPORT FUND POLICY

  • The applicant must be an active member of the Last Expense Cover.
  • The member must have maintained savings with Mustard Seed Kenya for a minimum period of three (3) months.
  • The Education Fund is issued as a zero-interest loan facility.
  • Eligible members may receive funding of up to two (2) times their total savings, calculated based solely on the member’s savings balance.
  • The repayment period for the Education Fund loan shall not exceed six (6) months.
  • A minimum of three (3) guarantors is mandatory.
  • All guarantors must be members who maintain active savings accounts with Mustard Seed Kenya.

5. LOW INTEREST LOAN POLICY

  • The applicant must be an active member under the Last Expense Cover.
  • The member must have maintained savings for at least three (3) months.
  • Loan interest rates start from as low as 2% per month, depending on the borrower’s repayment capacity and security provided.
  • Eligible members may access loans of up to three (3) times their savings balance.
  • The maximum loan repayment period shall be twelve (12) months.
  • A minimum of three (3) guarantors is required for loan approval.
  • Guarantors must have active savings with Mustard Seed Kenya.
  • The total savings held by guarantors must be equal to or greater than the loan amount applied for.

6. GENERAL POLICY PROVISIONS

  • All benefits and services are subject to verification and compliance with Mustard Seed Kenya policies.
  • Mustard Seed Kenya reserves the right to review, amend or update these policies from time to time.
  • Members shall be notified of any material policy changes through official communication channels.
  • Any disputes arising from membership benefits shall be handled through the official internal dispute resolution process.
